End bearing capacity of a single incompletely end-supported pile based on the rigid plastic finite element method with non-linear strength property against confining stress

An Incompletely End Supported Pile (IESP) is a pile in soft soil layer underlain by hard that does not reach the bottom practice. This study estimates end bearing capacity of IESP using an inhouse Rigid Plastic FEM code (RPFEM), considering shear strength non-linearity against confining pressure, and soil-foundation interaction. The effect distance between tip (d/B) on end-bearing was mainly investigated for three types soil: cohesive soils, cohesionless soils intermediate soils. Also, theratio (r) when it reaches to has no influence considered. By non-linearity, accurately estimated. estimations were consistent with previous analytical, experimental numerical solutions. It found inversely decreases d/B becomes constant around = 3. Based results, formula estimating proposed. Comparisons methods existing literature confirmed reliability proposed equation.
